Guide to Recruiting Strangers

First off when you see a guy without an org, approach them then greet them by name in vicinity.

Recruiter: Hi Newguy

Tells from strangers usually creep people out, so vicinity chat is better.

When they dont respond the first time, try

Recruiter: Hows it going?

If no response, then hes either too much of a n00b to know how to use vicinity chat or too rude to even bother inviting to our guild.

Newguy: Hi there

Once the person replies to you in vicinity, then its time to take the conversation to private tells.

Next question in private tell:

[Recruiter]: Been playing AO long?

This question screens out possible lowbie alts of long-time players, and avoid embarassment of inviting a new alt of some 220 char.

[Recruiter]: I been playing for 6 months, and its great :)

If the guy says hes been playing long and this is his new alt, then it ends here without embarassment of attempting to recruit some alt of an old player.

But if he says...

[Newguy]: yep just started playing

That's our cue.

This is how the suggested conversation goes...

[Recruiter]: ever heard of guilds and organizations?
[Recruiter]: we have a 1 year old guild Juppongatana "The Ten Swords"
[Recruiter]: with many members, different levels
[Recruiter]: we have a city in Galway Shire too
[Recruiter]: other guilds have tax, but ours dont :)
[Recruiter]: and we also engage in tower wars against clans
[Recruiter]: and do alien invasion raids frequently

From how the guy responds, try to find out a few things like:

1) is he an immature kid
2) is he rude / impolite
3) does he ask for stuff immediately and says "what do i get if i join?" or "will you guys give me creds and armor and stuff?"

If he is any of the above then we can safely end the recruitment there and move on to the next possible recruit.

But if he looks ok, then we ask him if he's interested in joining.

[Recruiter]: Would you like to try our guild out?

If he says "Yes", dont recruit just yet.

The next step is to explain in general the guild rules.

[Recruiter]: Our guild tries to be sort of like a 'family'
[Recruiter]: and we try to be part of the Omni family as well
[Recruiter]: help each other out and we maintain politeness and respect
[Recruiter]: our code is Honor, Courage, Loyalty and Brotherhood
[Recruiter]: as well as self-reliance
[Recruiter]: we have a 1 month applicant period...like a 'getting-to-know' stage
[Recruiter]: we have some 'dos' and 'donts' rules
[Recruiter]: help fellow members when we can
[Recruiter]: and we dont 'gank', 'beg', 'ninja loot' or 'scam' others

Now if he has no objections or negative reactions to all of the above, then it's time to invite.

Before inviting, announce it on org chat:

[juppongatana] Recruiter: new applicant, Newguy, (prof/breed/lvl) incoming..please all welcome him

then do /org invite :)
